PokeBonk Rocky Desert

Map · last checked 2026-10-20

PokeBonk Rocky Desert is PokeBonk map 2, which opens once you clear Viridian Forest on Normal. A run crosses three zones (morning, golden afternoon and twilight), each ending with a guardian at its altar, and then a fourth stage: the Rocky Desert Shrine, where Moltres waits. Its wild Pokemon are Ground, Rock, and Fighting types at first, with Steel and Fire joining later.

Rocky Desert zones and bosses

Each zone picks one guardian from its list per run, by the run's seed. Wake it at its altar with E and beat it to open the portal to the next zone. Totems and Summoners are mini-bosses that show up on the zone timer. Guardian HP is set so a typical build needs about 40, 50, and 60 seconds in zones 1 to 3, Totems 18, 22, and 26 seconds and Summoners 10, 12, and 14 seconds, measured from your own damage per second.

Rocky Desert Shrine and its legendary

After the zone 3 guardian, a portal leads to the Rocky Desert Shrine, the fourth stage, where Moltres fights you. Its HP is budgeted for about 60 seconds of your damage. Beating it opens the portal home and drops a free Great Ball chest, piles of coins, a Rare Candy and research points; if its League challenge is complete, you can also catch it. The PokeBonk legendary Pokemon guide covers each one.

What happens on the Rocky Desert timer

Every zone runs on the same clock. Alphas, giant Pokemon you can catch with a Friend Ball, arrive at 2:30, 5:30, and 8:00. A swarm or stampede hits around 200-235, 390, and 520 seconds, elite waves around 270-330 and 450 seconds, and Totems around 255-290 and 420 seconds. A Summoner appears at 6:00. After 10 minutes in a zone the final swarm starts and enemies grow stronger every minute, so beat the guardian before then.

Random events add a twist: zone 1 gets one and zones 2 and 3 get two, picked from the Spectral mist, a Thunderstorm, an Eclipse (night Pokemon, and a better shiny chance) and Golden Meowth, who drops coins with every hit. The PokeBonk alpha Pokemon guide explains the Friend Ball.

Pokemon living in Rocky Desert

The game lists these Pokemon families as residents of Rocky Desert: Ekans, Spearow, Doduo, Tauros, Kangaskhan, Ponyta, Meowth, Rattata, Zubat, Vulpix, Growlithe, Exeggcute, Psyduck, Nidoran Female, and Nidoran Male. Defeating Pokemon of a family adds to its research, which unlocks trainer titles and frames.

Rocky Desert in Survival mode

In Survival the map has no zones and adds hostile ground: quicksand (slows you to 50% speed, pulls you in) and burning ground (no slow, 3% of your HP per second, burn). Bosses arrive every five minutes instead of at altars.

Rocky Desert weather

The weather rolls between clear, sandstorm (boosts Rock, Ground, and Steel), and scorching sun (boosts Fire and Grass, weakens Water). Weather changes how hard each type hits: a boosted type deals 30% more and a weakened one 25% less, so a Water or Electric Pokemon gains on a rainy day while Fire loses out.
